沥青玛蹄脂（SMA）是一种由沥青、纤维稳定剂、砂粉及少量的细集料组成的沥青玛蹄脂填充间断级配的粗集料骨架间隙组成一体的沥青混合料。具有高含量粗集料、高含量矿粉、较大沥青用量、低含量中间粒径颗粒的组成特点。

玛蹄脂应具有恰当的耐热度（标号），根据具体使用条件和当地的极端最高温度来确定用多高的耐热度。耐热度过低，夏季易液化流淌；耐热度过高，冬季易冷脆断裂。玛蹄脂应具有一定的柔韧性，在结构发生变形时不致被拉裂。玛蹄脂还应具有足够的粘结力。
